Overcoming challenges
The project presented us several challenges, including the need for heritage conservation, wildlife preservation, ensuring public safety and adhering to a tight timeline.
- Wildlife preservation – Bats, a protected species, were found roosting in the roof space, necessitating compliance with bat conservation requirements. This included the use of bat-friendly roofing felt to ensure their habitat was preserved.
- Public safety – Walton Hall is a busy public venue, making site access and safety a top priority for us. Full perimeter scaffolding was erected by Spa Scaffolding to ensure safe access for workers. Strict health and safety protocols were implemented to protect both workers and the public. We maintained daily communication with the on-site manager and weekly updates to the Warrington Borough Council to ensure smooth project execution.
- Project timeline – The hall’s use as a wedding venue meant we had to complete the project within an eight-week period to accommodate upcoming bookings. Careful planning was required to ensure minimal disruption to visitors. We adhered to a strict schedule, completing all works within the designated period to ensure the hall was ready for its next wedding event.
By implementing a strategic approach that addressed these challenges, we successfully completed the project, preserving the hall’s heritage and wildlife, ensuring public safety, and meeting the tight deadline.
A slate roof for years to come
We completed the restoration project on time, within budget and exceeded the client’s expectations. Walton Hall’s roof now boasts enhanced durability and aesthetic appeal, preserving its historical significance for future generations. The project also provided valuable training opportunities for our apprentices, furthering the skillset of the next generation of roofers.
