The Ironworks, situated in Holbeck’s Urban Village, is a development of 68 new energy efficient homes, including 51 apartments, 15 townhouses and 2 penthouses, which sits in the heart of the city’s emerging South Bank regeneration area.

Complete Roofing Systems was engaged by ESH Construction to join the transformative project expanding the city centre southwards and creating a new community.

The core element of the project was the installation of 300 sq m of CUPACLAD natural slate rainscreen cladding to the penthouses. We fitted Siderise firestopping behind the cladding, which was approved by the NHBC before we installed the slate. Our operatives then carried out complex, detailed work to form seamless junctions with the existing rainscreen, COR-TEN.

Following the cladding installation, we were invited back to install CUPACLAD aluminium bespoke soffits and cappings to the balconies, plus aluminium sills and pressings on every window – 172 in total.

Several balconies had fixed powder coated handrails, so we developed a method to ensure that the cappings weathered properly.

Due to space restrictions, namely narrow boarded lifts on the scaffolding, it was difficult to move large volumes of materials around the site, so the slate had to be carried in small amounts, which was of course more time-consuming than using a MEWP.

This was our first project working with ESH Construction. Due to the success of the project and quality of our work, ESH invited us to deliver a roof and cladding project for a school in Huddersfield.
