Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council appointed Complete Roofing Systems to refurbish and reline Audley & Queen’s Park Children’s Centre’s gutter, which had reached its end of life.

As the client wanted a solution that is durable and longevous, with minimal disruption to the building, we specified an HD Sharman Plygene® Gutterline system, which is an effective alternative to full gutter replacement and provides a 25-year guarantee.

The team cleaned and dried the existing parapet gutter before installing the Plygene® Gutterline system to the full perimeter of the gutter, along with Plygene® Gutterline fleece pads to protect the liner from damage from bolts and other protrusions. Our operatives then created corner details by hot air welding weld straps across the joints.

During the works, we discovered that two downpipes were completely blocked, so we carefully removed the soffit panels to access and unblock the pipes, before continuing with the installation.

After completion, HD Sharman carried out an independent inspection to verify compliance with manufacturer standards.

As with any works carried out on an occupied building, the team took all the necessary safety precautions to enable the children’s centre staff and visitors to access the building safely at all times.

The site boundary was altered regularly as the works progressed and we had a banksman on site to ensure the safe operation of the mobile elevating work platform (MEWP).

Although the programme of works was originally agreed at 14 days, the team completed the job in just five days, installing over 180m of gutter and providing the client with a weathertight, long-lasting solution.
