Winning the opportunity to work directly with the end client, CRS was thrilled to partner with Hollywood Bowl as their chosen roofing contractor across multiple locations to enhance the structural integrity and overall quality of several of their ten-pin bowling centres across the UK. As a leading operator known for combining modern facilities with a fun experience for all ages, Hollywood Bowl consistently invests in infrastructure improvements to elevate the customer experience and maintain high standards of quality and safety. 

Beginning with a single project, we proved our expertise, leading to multiple projects involving extensive roof refurbishments and facility improvements at multiple locations, including Bolton, Stockton, Leeds, Branksome, Swindon, Glasgow, and Washington. Each of these sites presented its own unique challenges, from location-specific roof treatments to managing asbestos removal and coordinating logistics in publicly accessible spaces. We collaborated with several manufacturers across the projects, including Kingspan, HD Sharman and Ash & Lacy, to ensure that the best materials and solutions were applied. 

The primary objective of the projects was to enhance structural integrity by addressing varied roofing needs, from cleaning and coating metal sheets to full roof replacements. Safety compliance was also a major focus, involving the careful removal and disposal of asbestos to meet regulatory standards. Additionally, minimising disruption was essential, as refurbishments were carried out while the locations remained open to the public.  

Each location required tailored solutions to address its specific challenges. For instance, at the Bolton and Stockton sites, the focus was on refurbishing existing metal sheet roofs, including cleaning, coating and lining gutters with Plygene to extend the roof’s lifespan and improve water resistance. The Branksome location, with an ageing asbestos roof, required a complete strip and replacement with Kingspan composite panels, which provided enhanced insulation and improved safety. Persistent leaks at Swindon called for a full overcladding solution, ensuring durability and weatherproofing while maintaining daily operations. 

The projects faced several challenges, including diverse roofing needs that required collaboration with multiple manufacturers to select the best materials for each site. Asbestos handling at Branksome demanded strict adherence to environmental safety standards and clear communication to minimise risks for workers and patrons. Since each location remained operational, strategic planning with land agents was necessary to ensure logistics ran smoothly without interrupting the customer experience. 

The successful completion of the project has resulted in improved structural durability across the sites, significantly extending the lifespan of Hollywood Bowl’s facilities while enhancing weather resistance. Safety and compliance standards were upheld, particularly through the removal and replacement of hazardous asbestos roofs, reinforcing Hollywood Bowl’s commitment to visitor safety.
